Puerto Rico Hurricane Maria Response
Hurricane Maria dealt a devastating blow to Puerto Rico in September 2017. For months, people struggled to get by without reliable access to electricity, clean water, food, and health care.
After realizing that the federal government response was slow and inadequate, Oxfam decided to mount an emergency response. We’ve been helping to meet basic needs through distribution of water filters, solar lights, essential supplies, and more. And we’ve been calling on people in power for adequate and equitable resources for rebuilding.
As the island prepares for the 2018 hurricane season, which starts on June 1, Oxfam is investing in sustainable and resilient solutions to the problems that remain on the island.
